Training Center FAQs

What is the Dallas Comedy Club Training Center?

The Dallas Comedy Club Training Center is where classes and meetings take place. We have two breakout and writing rooms, and we offer a variety of courses in improv, sketch, stand-up, and storytelling, as well as a variety of elective classes and workshops throughout the year.

Where are DCC classes held?

The Dallas Comedy Club Training Center is located inside of Dallas Comedy Club’s main building. We are located on the southeastern corner of the intersection of Hall and Elm streets. Our street address is 3036 Elm Street, Dallas, TX 75226.

Where do I park when I come to DCC?

The club does not have its own parking lot and we do not offer valet services. We recommend booking convenient and affordable parking in advance through SpotHero, the nation’s leading parking reservations app. To reserve your parking spot, visit our SpotHero Parking Page.

Deep Ellum has multiple parking options, including paid lots, street parking, and meters, which can be paid for with coins or via the ParkMobile app. Parking can be a bit tricky, and Deep Ellum is serious about enforcing parking rules, so we suggest arriving at least 30 minutes prior to the start of your class to give yourself ample time to park and get to the theater on time.

DO NOT PARK in the bank parking lot (behind DCC) or any of the Terry Black’s parking lots – you will get towed and that is completely out of our hands!

How do I sign up for a course?

I've taken classes at other theaters. Will my classes transfer, or do I have to start over?

While we are excited that you’re coming to Dallas Comedy Club with experience, our school has a unique curriculum that benefits veteran and novice improvisers alike. All students are required to start their selected track in Level One.

When are new classes announced?

We are constantly adding new courses to the schedule; for new class announcements, sign up for alerts on our website, follow us on Instagram, or like us on Facebook.

When is tuition due?

Tuition is due in full upon class registration.

Do you offer payment plans?

We do not currently offer payment plans for class tuition. Students must pay their tuition in full to complete registration for any course.

If you are seeking tuition assistance, consider becoming an intern! Dallas Comedy Club offers opportunities for students to earn free tuition credit in exchange for work around the theater. A full class credit can be earned after 40 hours of an internship, and partial credit can be given for shorter internships.

Do you offer scholarships?

DCC has limited scholarships available. Scholarships are awarded based on demonstrated financial need, artistic merit, and class availability. Applicants may reapply should they be denied the scholarship upon their first application. Applications are available on a rolling basis and are accepted all year long. Those interested can apply here!

How often do courses meet?

Courses typically meet for 3 hours once per week for 8 weeks, though specialty classes may vary.

What should I bring to class?

First and foremost, bring a good attitude!

For Improv courses, plan to wear breathable clothing and closed-toed footwear that is easy to move around in.

For Stand-Up classes, bring a pen and a notebook. Laptops are not permitted.

For Sketch and Storytelling, bring something you can use to write. Laptops or electronic devices are permitted!

Who are the teachers?

Courses are taught by experienced and qualified comics, actors, writers, and directors. The majority of the Training Center’s faculty are currently working as performers. You can read individual bios on our instructors page.

Dallas Comedy Club reserves the right to replace any instructor with an equally qualified instructor at any time and without notice.

May I bring a guest to class, or audit classes?

We want to create a safe and comfortable environment for our students to learn without judgment. As such, only students who are actually enrolled in the class will be allowed in the classroom. Guests are never allowed. If you know someone interested in Dallas Comedy Club, invite them to a jam or Open Mic, or direct them to our website for course enrollment!

Will there be homework?

All classes require students to see shows that relate to the topic they are studying. Students will receive an ID card for free access to most DCC shows (based on availability). Writing courses will have written homework assignments each week. Failure to complete homework assignments will result in the student having to retake the course.

How does my student ID work?

Students receive their ID card on the first day of their class. The ID card can be shown at the box office for complimentary admission to most DCC shows, when available (students will be seated after paying customers). Student ID cards expire on the date of the student’s grad show.

Will I get to perform?

Yes! All core classes culminate in a graduation show held at the theater. Performance opportunities for specialty courses and electives will vary. Jams and Open Mics will be held weekly. They are FREE and tons of fun! Sign up and get onstage!

Do you offer refunds?

All sales are final, non-refundable, and non-transferable.

Do you offer work-study internships?

Dallas Comedy Club offers opportunities for students to earn free tuition credit in exchange for internships at the theater, training center, or during special events. For more information on internships, click here or email tc@dallas-comedyclub.com for more information.

When will I receive a class confirmation email?

You will receive a confirmation receipt within 24 hours of your enrollment. More information will follow as you get closer to the start date of your class.

Can I take sketch, improv, or other classes concurrently?

Yes! You may enroll in simultaneous courses as long as prerequisites are met.

Which courses require prerequisites?

There are no prerequisites for Level 1 courses, drop-ins, or electives unless specifically noted. Our Improv, Sketch, Storytelling, and Stand-up students begin in Level 1 and complete each level as a prerequisite for the next level. Students must apply for certain advanced-level courses.

What happens if I miss a class?

If available, students can makeup a missed class within the timeframe of their scheduled course term. Makeups are not offered for every class and must be approved by instructors and/or the registrar. Students are allowed only two absences per course term. More than two absences without a makeup class or assignment will result in the student being dropped from the class.

Can DCC teach a workshop or perform a show at my school or business?

Yes! Dallas Comedy Club can bring the workshops and shows to you. Check out our Parties and Groups and Corporate Workshop pages for more information.

Can my troupe rent a room for rehearsals?

Absolutely! Classroom rentals start at $30/hour. To book a rehearsal time, email claire@dallas-comedyclub.com.

I would like to be a DCC Instructor. How do I sign up?

To be considered for a teaching position, send an introductory email including your background and resume to claire@dallas-comedyclub.com. Applicants with a strong performance background are preferred.
