YOUTH CLASSES & CAMPS

Kids are funny too!

We believe comedy can be a powerful form of expression for people of all ages! Comedy is a great outlet for children to channel their innate creativity and sense of play into something that can be shared with the world!

Dallas Comedy Club’s youth classes adapt exercises from our core curriculum to give students the skills and confidence they need to shine both on and off stage! Age-appropriate lessons focus on using active listening as a foundation to build fun group activities. Individual creativity is channelled into decisions that affirm the choices of their teammates rather than negating the contributions of others. Students work as a team to create and rehearse completely made up acts for their final performance. By the end of their program, your young performer will take to the stage and dazzle you with their new skills!

Youth Class & Camp FAQs

What time is drop-off and pick up?

The drop-off window is from 8:00-8:30am unless otherwise stated. Early drop-off is available for an extra fee.

The pick-up window for half-day camps is from 12:20-1:00pm. The pick-up window for full-day camps is 3:00-3:30pm.

Where is camp located?

All of Dallas Comedy Club’s classes including youth classes take place at our theater on the corner of Hall and Elm streets in Deep Ellum. Students will remain on premise until they are picked up by a parent or guardian.

What should campers bring with them?

The #1 most important thing is a positive attitude and a willingness to have fun!

A sack lunch is the next most important thing. Pack a lunch with plenty of snacks to fuel your camper throughout the day. Please alert us to any known allergies your camper has so that we can monitor during lunch and snack breaks.

DCC will provide unlimited access to filtered water. Campers may bring their own reusable water bottle, or use the provided plastic cups to stay hydrated.

Sometimes our theaters can be a little chilly, so a light jacket or sweater can come in handy.

What is the cell phone policy?

Cell phones can be a helpful way to stay in touch with your camper during the day, but they can also become a distraction. Students may bring cell phones to camp, but they must remain out of sight and on silent. We request that campers keep their cell phones with their packed lunch (in a lunchbox or backpack) during the day. They may check their phone for messages during breaks, but otherwise should refrain from using their phones.

Tablets and other electronics should be left at home.

What does a typical camp day look like?

Each morning upon arrival, all campers will participate in an instructor-led warm-up game to check in and start the day. For their core lesson, your camper will join their “team” (determined by age) for a morning improv class. Before lunch, all campers will head into our Club Theater for some performance practice! Each team will perform something they learned in class that day while the other team practices being a good audience.

Campers are together for lunch and are supervised by at least two members of camp staff at any given time.

In the afternoon, campers will rejoin their team for two sessions: one special topic lesson, and a rehearsal for their final showcase. Previous special topic lessons have included puppetry, clowning, and acting.

Once the pick-up window starts, campers will be allowed to mingle and play until it’s time to go.

Will my camper be with kids their own age?

Students are divided into two groups based on age and maturity. Our goal is to provide each camper with age appropriate instruction while still allowing them to connect with students in the other age group.
